Addiction Support Guide

We have all seen the ads on television that show a woman speaking and breathing thru a hole in her throat. There are also adverts that show kids in situations where their peers are trying to get them to smoke. 20 years back these sorts of commercials weren’t available, instead you had Joe Cool, Marlboro Man, and many attractive people who are shown as preferred and interesting people thanks to the cigarettes that they were smoking. The reality is it was all a falsity. Those people who smoke will experience more discomfort and heartache in their shortened lifetime than that of non-smokers. While I have never smoked, I have seen what it can do to not only people who do smoke, but the people they know also. Both of my mom’s parents have smoked ever since she had been born. Smoking was not a weird sight to her. She was also not privy to the unfavorable has effects on that smoking has physically, psychologically, and emotionally. Nicotine, which is the drug in cigarettes, has been apparently one of the most addictive drugs. Both of my grandparents had drug addiction help, the old lady followed. It’s been seven years since my grandmama has kicked the bucket from smoking. She didn’t get an opportunity to have a surgery, or any other form of help to help her live longer. She kicked the bucket in her sleep of emphysema. This hit my mom very hard as she was close to my grandma. Her death led my mum to try to stop smoking many times, all mess ups. I couldn’t see why it got so troublesome. I had studied my pop kick the habit 4 years prior to my grandma’s death. In my eyes it should be simple to quit something that is so harmful, to not only yourself, but to those around you too. My grandma’s death also led straight to one or two changes in my grandpa’s life. He started to think he did not have anything else to live for and constantly would smoke and drink. Each of which has caused him many medical Problems during the past year. It would appear that among other stuff, he too has emphysema. With this, he has come near to dying two times during the past year. What is worse is that he knows what’s wrong and could do something to switch his situation. Where he wouldn’t be able to live forever if he was supposed to stop smoking, he would at least make it 1 or 2 years longer. As sorrowful as it sounds he most likely will not get past this year. This has led to once again, the old lady trying to stop smoking. Something she has not had any success with during the past. It has now been eight weeks since her last cigarette. One would think it would be simple at about that point, but it’s not. Everyday I hear her say how she wants a cigarette ; everyday I am stumped as to why. I obviously am not the person that is hooked on it but how can something so bad, be desired so much. For her it has been an outlet of stress, a way to relax. Whenever something occurs, she would go out and smoke. Now, these are trying times for her. Things at her job aren’t going well, her father naturally is not doing well, and my dad in fact has his issues as well . I am absolutely certain he is going to be fine but right now things are all mixed up for her. My mom has kept robust thru all of this though. I’m awfully pleased with her. More than anything, I’m hoping that my mother can fight the obsession of nicotine so that she does not end up like her ma and pa. At the age of 42, she has 1/2 her life before her ; that is if she will be able to quit smoking. Everyday is another step towards a more healthy and more happy life. It just shows that if you put your mind to something and with the right inducement you can achieve anything. For more information check out www.addictionhelpguides.com
